A rare disease, also referred to as an orphan disease, is any disease that only affects a small percentage of the population, is serious and requires very costly treatments. It is distressing that social security does not provide reimbursements for these treatments. Families confronted with
rare diseases do not just have to battle with the drama of the disease but also risk financial ruin.
Without any external support such scenario could be a disaster.
